Prendre (To Take)
The verb prendre (to take) is an irregular -re verb. Although its singular forms have endings similar to regular -re verbs such as attendre, its plural forms are different.

Because prendre is a very common verb, it is important to memorize its conjugation. Many other French verbs, such as apprendre (to learn), comprendre (to understand), surprendre (to surprise), and reprendre (to take back; to resume), follow the same conjugation pattern.
Prendre translates to To take and shares most of the same uses with English (unless we are talking about food and drinks. See next point):

In French, we use the verb prendre to talk about consuming food and drinks. While in English, to have is commonly used.
Je prends un café tous les matins. I have a coffee every morning.
Nous prenons le petit déjeuner ensemble. We are having breakfast together.
Prendre can also be used to talk about directions:
Prenez la première à droite. Take the first turn right.
