IRREGULAR ‘ETER’ VERB
Verbs in -eter follow the same rule as verbs in -eler and double the t to get the sound è.such as jeter (meaning to throw),which end in -eter, the t doubles before -e, -es and -ent. The double consonant (tt) affects the pronunciation of the word. In jeter, the first e sounds like the vowel sound
je jette ==> sound “è” due to the doubling of the t
nous jetons ==> sound “e”, no doubling of the t required
